Sonoma County One- and Two-Day Workshops
Treat yourself to a one-day or two-day painting workshop in charming Cotati, gateway to California's fabled Sonoma County wine country.
All three types of workshops are held at Clark's wonderful straw bale studio. As part of an exclusive group of artists studying with Clark personally in his studio, you'll receive plenty of at-easel assistance in an inspiring setting for only $100 per day. Beverages and healthy snacks are included in the cost of the workshop. Please book at least a week in advance, as there is a three-student minimum to hold each workshop. This region is so beautiful that you'll come for a day or two but want to stay for the week!
Principles of Plein Air Workshops
The day begins with a quick overview of outdoor painting. Then, following Clark's plein-air painting demo in pastel, you'll have the rest of the day to experience outdoor painting for yourself, using oils, pastels, or any medium you prefer. You'll have plenty of subjects to choose from—everything from intimate garden scenes to long vistas. Clark will provide personalized attention to each student as you learn to paint from life outdoors.

Indoor Studio Workshops: Pastel Landscapes from Photos
This indoor studio workshop is ideal for students of all levels of experience who are eager to learn to paint beautiful landscapes in pastels. Clark walks students through the basics of working from photos, including creating an underpainting, adjusting for color, understanding the elements of a landscape, and infusing your painting with style and emotion. You'll then have the rest of the day to create your own pastel landscape, working from your own photos or from reference material provided by Clark. As you work, Clark will provide plenty of assistance and attention.

Indoor Studio Workshops: Still Life Paintings
Ideal for students of all skill levels, you'll enjoy learning to paint still lifes in pastel in the comfort of Clark's studio. Following an introductory demo, you'll have the rest of the day to complete your painting, working from Clark's treasure trove of interesting props, fresh flowers and fruits, or even a personal item of your own. As you devote the day to creating your own still life painting, Clark will be sure to spend individualized time with you, offering personalized advice unique to your needs.
