During the Kern County Plein Air Invitational, I stopped at Hart Memorial Park in Bakersfield late one afternoon to do a painting, but it started to sprinkle just enough to discourage me from bringing out my pastels and paper. I spent a happy hour wandering along the Kern River and throughout the park and decided to paint this small lake dotted with birds first thing next morning. Painting this elongated pastel landscape was a most peaceful interlude until gunshots started to ring out at a nearby firing range! What we artists have to put up with!
